The Monthly: Once a Month, You Check the System
The Weekly is about the week. Once a month there is a bigger question: is the system working for us? In Rocket Routine OS, that question has its own meeting: the Monthly.
In short: In Rocket Routine OS, the Monthly is the monthly management meeting where you check the system: the trend, the key figures and KPIs, and the learnings. The Navigator leads the meeting, and a person decides on every learning.
How Rocket Routine OS is built overall is in the whole picture. This article is about one meeting: what the Monthly asks, which figures sit behind it, and what becomes of a learning you accept.
Three questions, once a month
A classic monthly business review, or monthly operating review, compares the month's figures with the plan. The Monthly in Rocket Routine OS asks about the system behind them, with three questions on its standard agenda.
The Navigator is the AI agent that leads every meeting in Rocket Routine OS. In everyday work, it is the partner you talk to in the chat. It opens the Monthly by itself, too: it greets everyone and asks whether to add or remove topics and whether to invite anyone else. Then it leads through the three questions:
- How is the company trending overall?
- What do the key figures and KPIs say?
- Which learnings from routines and meetings are worth keeping?
Key figures and KPIs, in plain words
This is the business health check part of the meeting. Rocket Routine OS computes a handful of figures by itself, each time before the Weekly. In the Monthly, you look at three of them:
- How often work is right the first time. The figure is called FTT (First Time Through): the share of work items that pass the check on the first attempt without rework. A work item is a single piece of work with an owner.
- How many work items are open.
- How many metric values are overdue. A metric (KPI) is the number that measures a result, for example recurring revenue. Its value is overdue when it is missing on the due date.
Whoever owns a metric gets a request in their Inbox before the meeting that reviews it. The Inbox is the place where you receive requests, approvals and reports. If the value is still missing on the due date, the request goes to the person responsible for the area.
A value does not have to be typed. It can be read automatically from a connected system. If someone does enter it, they write it in the chat, and the Navigator assigns it to the right period: a value you enter on 2 November for a monthly metric belongs to October. You can change the period. Where values come from and who delivers them is covered in How are we doing?
What happens to a learning
In Rocket Routine OS, a learning is a lesson that has been recorded. It comes from a routine run, from the review of a meeting, or from a question the company's knowledge could not answer clearly. A routine is a procedure that runs on a schedule, for example a daily summary of industry news. All learnings are listed in the Learning register in the Advanced menu.
In the Monthly, a person decides on every learning: they accept it or discard it. An accepted learning becomes a concrete next step.
As in every meeting: if someone agreed to do something, the Navigator offers a work item at the end of the topic. It asks who takes it on and when it is due. The Navigator never sets a date on its own.
Weekly and Monthly in the rhythm
The Weekly looks every week at the metrics that crossed a warning line and at the weekly figures. How it runs is described in the article on the Weekly led by the Navigator. The Monthly steps back. Once a month you ask: is the system working for us?
Both belong to the same operating rhythm of Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly or Trimester, and Annual meeting. All meetings are on from the start. You switch off what you do not need, and for each meeting you set days, times and who is accountable. The agenda can be defined freely, too.
What you need to do
Very little. Rocket Routine OS computes the key figures and KPIs, the requests for missing values go out before the meeting, and the Navigator opens and leads the Monthly. Your part is the decisions: which learning stays and who takes on the next step. And if you get stuck anywhere in the product, you ask the Navigator.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a monthly business review, and what should it cover?
In Rocket Routine OS, the Monthly is the monthly review that checks a company's system: how the company is trending overall, what the key figures and KPIs show, and which learnings it wants to keep. The Navigator, an AI agent, opens the meeting by itself and leads through the agenda.
What is the difference between the Weekly and the Monthly?
The Weekly looks every week at the metrics that crossed a warning line and at the weekly figures. Once a month, the Monthly steps back and asks whether the system is working for the company: the trend, key figures and KPIs, and learnings. The Navigator leads both meetings.
Which key figures and KPIs does the Monthly review?
Three: how often work is right the first time (FTT, First Time Through), how many work items are open, and how many metric values are overdue. Rocket Routine OS computes these figures by itself. If a metric value is missing, the person who owns it gets a request in their Inbox before the meeting.
What happens to a learning in the Monthly?
In Rocket Routine OS, a learning is a recorded lesson from a routine run, a meeting review or an unclear answer. In the Monthly, a person accepts or discards each learning. An accepted learning becomes a concrete next step, and for every commitment the Navigator offers a work item.
